BOZEMAN – Stronger thunderstorms are likely over SW Montana Thursday afternoon as a cold front passes through the state.

Thunderstorms can produce large hail, strong wind gusts, brief heavy rain, and frequent lightning.

Another cold front will pass through the state Saturday. Ahead of this frontal system surface winds will increase on Friday. The combination of gusty surface winds, warm temperatures, lower humidity will create higher fire danger Friday into Saturday.

The Storm Prediction Center has a “marginal” risk up for severe thunderstorm activity for most of northern and central counties Thursday afternoon and evening. This also includes the northern half of SW Montana roughly between Butte and Bozeman.
