Strong cold front by Wednesday afternoon

BOZEMAN – The next weather maker will arrive Wednesday. A strong cold front will produce a wide variety of conditions Wednesday into Thursday.

Ahead of this storm temperatures will warm up into the 60s Tuesday and Wednesday only to drop off again by Thursday.

Surface winds will be increasing late Tuesday into Wednesday especially in wind prone areas. Gusty over 30 mph are likely. Stronger wind gusts could develop with afternoon thunderstorms Wednesday.

Increasing moisture will move into SW Montana by Wednesday afternoon. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are likely especially along and north of I-90. Some storms could produce moderate rainfall rates Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Wednesday night into Thursday morning snow levels will lower down to mountain pass levels and there could be a rain snow mix for higher elevated valleys like Butte.

Forecast models today (likely to change) show the heaviest precipitation to impact central Montana east of the divide Wednesday into Thursday with very little rain or snow for the far southern regions of Montana.
