BOZEMAN – Plan on an active afternoon with several rounds of thunderstorms over SW Montana. SW flow aloft and an approaching cold front will produce an unstable atmosphere conducive for thunderstorm development.

Between 4 pm and 9 pm will be the best time for stronger thunderstorms to rumble over our region. The Storm Prediction Center continues a “marginal” or low risk for a few strong to severe thunderstorms. That means a few storms could produce property damage.

Most storm will produce brief heavy rain, small hail, strong outflow wind gusts, and frequent and deadly lightning.

Other impacts will be rapid water level rises for smaller streams and creeks with nearby thunderstorms producing heavy rain along with mid-level snow melt.

After midnight we will be behind the cold front and the atmosphere will return to a stable state.
