Fire weather concerns for Friday afternoon and evening

BOZEMAN – A mostly dry cold front is passing through Montana Friday afternoon. This front will produce increasing surface winds and a few thunderstorms.

The combination of hot, dry, windy, and isolated thunderstorms has a Red Flag Warning up for SW Montana through 8 pm tonight. Please use extreme caution with all outdoor activities as weather conditions are favorable for new fire starts.

The Storm Prediction Center has a “marginal” or very low risk for stronger thunderstorms to develop Friday afternoon from Helena to Bozeman to Lewistown. Some thunderstorms could produce damaging wind gusts.

Once the cold front passes through the weather pattern will settle down by Saturday morning. Less wind and slightly cooler temperatures to start your weekend.
