BOZEMAN – Cooler than normal temperatures across Montana today. An upper-level trough is sitting over the state and that is holding temperatures down slightly below normal for mid-August.

On the bottom end of this trough, there is a slight chance for a few isolated thunderstorms to develop Thursday afternoon across Beaverhead, Madison, and Gallatin Counties. Surface winds are stronger today along the MT/ID state line from Monida to West Yellowstone.

This trough will slowly break down heading into the weekend. Replacing the trough will be a build ridge pattern and that should kick temperatures back up into the upper 80s to upper 90s from west to east this weekend.

SW Montana will see above-normal temperatures by Sunday into early next week.
