BOZEMAN — Three hunters were injured by grizzly bears in the past week, and several other grizzly sightings over the past few weeks have been reported.

With all that, The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks is reminding folks heading in to the back country to go prepared.

FWP’s Morgan Jacobsen talked with Montana This Morning’s Chet Layman about being Bear Aware for This Week in Fish & Wildlife.

Jacobsen stressed the importance of carrying bear spray, and more importantly, knowing how to use it. Bear spray was used in at least one of the incidents in the Madison area and the spray successfully chased away the attacking bear.

Jacobsen noted the need to keep the spray accessible, and not stashed in a backpack. Head over to the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks website fwp.mt.gov for more tips on staying Bear Aware.
