MADISON COUNTY — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is taking a look at Highway 84 in Madison County to figure out solutions to make the roadway safer and have fewer accidents.

MDT hosted two virtual open houses Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. for residents and travelers.

The virtual sessions answered questions and informed people about what MDT hopes to accomplish through the study, as well as things to keep in mind.

“We use studies to explore options for improving the road. Construction is not guaranteed. We may find that all our options are too costly to pursue. Studies help MDT identify feasible solutions. This involves finding the most cost-effective approach to improving safety,” explained Bill Fogarty, the Butte District Administrator at the Montana Department of Transportation.

During the meeting, officials said the earliest possible date to begin actual construction won’t be until 2026.
