Laurel's annual Fourth of July fireworks show will be a scaled-down version designed for local residents.
The Laurel Volunteer Fire Department announced on its Facebook page Friday that firefighters are planning to shoot off the fireworks from an "undisclosed location" to discourage crowds. Fireworks are typically shot off from Thomson Park.
The show is being planned to meet Montana's phase social-distancing restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Because firefighters are unable to do their normal fundraising, including door-to-door, the show will be paid for by the 35 members of the volunteer fire department association.
Donations to support the can be sent to PO Box 1191, Laurel, MT 59044.
The Laurel Chamber of Commerce is working with county health officials and other groups to determine what other events, including the parade, pancake breakfast and food vendors, can be held, the group wrote on Facebook .
