BELGRADE — The Belgrade City Council voted unanimously at a special meeting Tuesday evening to put interim zoning in place to stop a gravel pit from being operated.

The proposed location was east of Collins Road and south of Weaver Road.

The interim zoning ordinance goes for six months but can have 2 six-month extensions and by that time permanent zoning will be in place.

That will zone the area "Residential" and not allow gravel pits.

According to the Belgrade city clerk, about 100 people were in attendance at the meeting and all spoke in opposition to the gravel pit.

No one from the construction company appeared at the meeting.
