BOZEMAN, Mont. – Streamline and Skyline bus systems will have to wait longer than expected in order to bring electric buses into the Gallatin Valley.
The federal funding the systems applied for was not approved by the Federal Transit Administration. Western Transportation Manager David Kack said two electric buses will instead go to Missoula due to their worse air quality.
Kack said because Missoula now has several buses hopefully Bozeman will be able to use other state funding to pay for the buses.
“They are probably good for now, which means we would have a good chance with this VW settlement,” said Kack. “Or in the future have the low no emission grant from the Federal Transit Administration, we could have a good shot there.”
The next step for the two cities is to pay for the buses through the Department of Environmental Quality’s settlement from Volkswagen.
