BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Bozeman School District is asking for help from the community to name the new high school that’s set to open in the Fall of 2020.
Superintendent of Schools Rob Watson said that when it comes to naming schools, there is a list of specific rules the district must follow. The name can be chosen because of a physical location, but if it is named after a person it must be the name of someone no longer living.
Watson said within the next few weeks the district will post the rules on its website and will ask the community for name suggestions.
“Our committee, the same committee that is working on boundaries, will take a look at all of those suggestions and sort of narrow it down to probably a list of 10 or 20,” said Watson. “Then we will put those out for a vote for the entire community, the top 5 vote-getters would go to our school board, who would have the final decision.”
The school board hopes to have a decision on the name by Spring. Watson said although the same rules do not apply to colors and a mascot, the community will also vote on those.
