BOZEMAN — Additional charges against a Bozeman man found to have killed his wife, shot and injured another woman and who will be spending the rest of his life in prison, are expected to be dropped.

This week, the Gallatin County Attorney’s Office requested that the judge drop the charges of tampering with evidence and punching a detention center officer against Joseph Paul DeWise.

We’ve covered this trial extensively, the charge of tampering with evidence involved DeWise calling his daughter from prison, asking her to blame his son for the crimes.

DeWise was sentenced to 220 years in prison without parole in the murder of wife Lauren Walder DeWise and severely injuring Ashley Van Hemert earlier this month.

The judge approved dropping the tampering charge, while the other charge of assaulting an officer is still pending.
