The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office reports that it has received several calls regarding a scam where a man impersonates a law enforcement officer in a phone call to victims.

In a media release, the Sheriff’s Office said the caller identifies himself as Deputy or Detective Gilbert Lopez with the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office. He tells victims they are facing an arrest warrant due to a missed court date.

The caller goes on to demand payment via prepaid debit or gift cards, such as Google Play Cards or Green Dot Cards.

The Sheriff’s Office confirms this is a scam and warns the public not to respond to any requests, saying the scammer is “aggressive, convincing, and persistent.”

As a reminder, the Sheriff’s Office said it does not contact individuals to ask for money.
