BUTTE – A Spokane woman was charged Tuesday with felony attempted deliberate homicide in connection with a stabbing a Butte woman last month.

Shelley Kroum, 41, is accused of wounding a Butte woman by stabbing her in the chest outside her South Jackson Street residence the evening of Sept. 1, according to Butte police. The victim was treated and released from the hospital the night of the stabbing.

Investigators suspect Kroum drove back to Spokane the evening of the stabbing. She was arrested on a warrant this week in Spokane and transport to Butte to face the charge.

According to the police report, Kroum had visited with the victim in her home the night of the incident, and asked the victim to walk her to her car. When the pair got to the car, Kroum suddenly stabbed the victim in the chest, dropped the knife and drove away, according to police.

Police said the victim was taken by surprise by the incident and knows no motive for the attack.
