Montana adds 201 COVID-19 cases (Wed, July 29)

Montana added 201 new COVID-19 cases to the total on the Montana Response COVID-19 tracking map Wednesday, with 1,410 cases reported as active.

Note: Numbers reported by the state each day occasionally differ from those reported by county public health departments due to periodic lag times in reporting data to the state. MTN News counts the updated data individual counties report throughout a given day.

• TOTAL CASES & RECOVERIES: Montana now reports 3,676 cumulative cases statewide, with 2,212 people recovered.

• HOSPITALIZATIONS: There are currently 59 patients hospitalized. There have been 211 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

• ACTIVE CASES: The state reports there are currently 1,410 active COVID-19 cases in Montana.

• TESTING: The number of tests increased by 3,947 over the previous 24-hour reporting period, for a new cumulative state-wide total of 165,355.

• DEATHS: The cumulative number of deaths in Montana stands at 54.

Five new COVID-19-related deaths have been reported in Montana late Monday and Tuesday morning, bringing the total statewide to 51.
The new deaths include a man in his 40s in Yellowstone County and two people over the age of 65 in Custer County (the first deaths there), which were all reported Tuesday. A man in his 50s from Gallatin County was reported dead Tuesday, while another death was reported Monday in Lincoln County.
The Gallatin City-County Health Department announced Tuesday morning that a Gallatin County man died due to COVID-19 and other underlying health conditions.
The man was in his 50s and was found unresponsive at his home on July 7.
Gallatin City-County Health Department was informed Monday that the state medical examiner attributed the death to COVID-19 and a number of significant underlying health conditions.

Governor Steve Bullock announced a statewide directive requiring face coverings/masks in Montana on July 15. The directive applies to counties that have four or more active cases of COVID-19.

The directive requires that masks be used in most indoor settings and where social distancing cannot be maintained. Bullock said businesses will have the right to deny entry of anyone not wearing a mask.
