Bloomington (The Pantagraph) — A Bloomington woman is in the county jail after police said she called 911, falsely claiming someone was shot in the head to get officers to respond more quickly to her residence.
Police were called to the 800 block of East Jefferson at 10:52 a.m. Sunday for a report of a shooting. The female caller, identified in court documents as Ashley Marez, 25, told 911 operators someone had been shot in the head during a domestic dispute.
She is charged with filing a false police report, a Class 4 felony.
Several officers, plus the Bloomington Fire Department arrived on the scene, but found no victim.
In court on Monday, prosecutors said Marez told police there was a shooting so they would respond more quickly. There were no other arrests made during the incident.
Marez did not appear in court from the jail, but prosecutors did not give a reason for her absence. The hearing was conducted without her being present.
She remains in jail in lieu of posting $1,035 bond. Marez pleaded guilty last May to aggravated battery of a peace officer. She is currently on probation on that charge.
She is due back in court March 1 for a bond reduction hearing in the current case; before posting bond, she must show the source of income for the bond.
She is scheduled to be arraigned March 8.
