Queensbury (The Post-Star) — A gun threat during a child custody dispute at an apartment on Burke Drive late Thursday led to the arrest of a Queensbury man on numerous charges, according to police.
No one was injured in the 6:25 p.m. confrontation at 237D Burke Drive, in the Montcalm Apartments complex off Aviation and Dixon roads, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Tyler C. Olden, 22, was charged with four misdemeanors after a woman alleged he pointed a pump-action shotgun at her and “racked” it to show it was loaded.
The woman had gone to the home to retrieve a child during a pre-arranged custody exchange, but Olden became upset and allegedly wielded the shotgun, officials said.
The victim fled and called police. Sheriff’s officers and State Police responded to the complex, established a perimeter around the building and Olden was called on the phone. After talking with police, he surrendered without incident.
The shotgun was recovered.
Police said Olden was charged with misdemeanor counts of menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, as there were two children present.
Under state law, it is a misdemeanor to point a loaded gun at another person, and sheriff’s officers determined no felony charges were warranted against Olden upon initial review of the case.
Olden was sent to the Warren County Jail lockup, pending arraignment Friday in Queensbury Town Court.
Sheriff’s Patrol Office Dan Habshi made the arrest.
