ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KOAT) — Nearly 800,000 Americans are furloughed or working without pay during this partial government shutdown, now on its 34th day.
Adam Baker is a geologist for the U.S. government and on the third week of the shutdown, he says he had to find some sort of income to survive.
“For me it has depleted my savings,” Baker said. “I was able to pay for January rent and February rent, and I had a little extra money for buying food, but that was pretty much it.”
Baker landed a job working for the Tractor Brewing Company. It is a complete 180 from his five years of experience as a geologist.
“It’s definitely a lifeline, I was able to find refuge here at Tractor Brewing and I’m so very thankful for that,” said Baker.
Baker is a full-time federal employee so he is expecting back pay once the government re-opens.
