FLORENCE (KPAX TV) — Florence Carlton School officials have notified parents that the “modified lockdown” that was put in place on Monday morning has been lifted.
All normal schedules and procedures for grades K-12 have resumed.
Ravalli County Sheriff Steve Holton said Monday afternoon that two students reported seeing threatening material posted on social media by a juvenile male over the weekend. The suspect male was not in school on Monday and the information was immediately investigated by the School Resource Officer.
The 13-year-old male was taken into custody at his Florence area home by deputies and was charged with intimidation, a felony. The lockdown was lifted as soon as the juvenile was in custody and there are no other suspects in that incident.
Florence Carlton School Superintendent Bud Scully sent the following message to parents:
“The reason that we went to a modified lockdown was because of a perceived threat that was forwarded to administration. After discussion with Deputy Reynolds and the Admin staff, I directed that we do the modified lockdown since the suspect was not in school today. It was determined that students would be safer here at school since they were already on campus and that the threat also included the community as well as the school. After Deputy Reynolds made contact with the suspect we lifted the lockdown. The suspect has since been taken into custody.”

In another incident, Holton says that a threatening note was found in a locker at the Lone Rock Middle School. A lockdown there was eventually lifted following a search of all lockers and every classroom. This incident remains under investigation.
Additional law enforcement have been placed on both campuses. Holton asks that everyone report potentially threatening situations to the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office at 406-363-3033.
Parents and guardians should call the school offices for more information on the status of the lockdowns.
