MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (WISN) — Milwaukee’s Lakefront Brewery can’t release one of its new beers because of the government shutdown.
The problem isn’t with the beer; it’s the label. The agency that approves them is shut down, which means Lakefront can’t sell its “My Turn: Chuck” beer.
“It’s our business. We have to do this. We have to keep rolling. Everybody out there loves a new beer coming out. If you’re not getting this, you’ll have to start drinking your brother-in-law’s home brew if you want something new,” Lakefront Brewery owner Russ Klisch said.
The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau has to approve all beer labels before breweries can sell the beer.
Klisch said the brewery sent the labels in for approval in December, but since the agency shut down, Lakefront has gotten no response.
“We can’t make a beer without this label, so the label is in there. It’s shut down, can’t get label approval for the ‘My Turn: Chuck,’” Klisch said.
“I think we’ve got to call up (President Donald) Trump and (House Speaker Nancy) Pelosi and tell them to end this thing. That’s what you have to do. To me, it’s just crazy. It’s hurting us. It’s hurting everybody in the country,” Klisch said.
Once the government reopens, Klisch said the agency will have weeks of work to catch up on, so he isn’t sure exactly when their new beer will hit the shelves.
