Los Angeles, CA (KCBS) — A 3-year-old boy died and his 23-year-old mother is in critical condition after they were stabbed in Fontana on Thursday afternoon, police said.
The child was taken to Kaiser where he died from his stab wounds while the mother was transported to Arrowhead Regional.
The stabbings occurred in the 11700 block of Belmonte Road.
Saul Franco, 20, was taken into custody near the home in connection to the stabbing. He has been identified as the boy’s uncle.
The grandparents came home and found the victims and called 911, according to police.
“It’s hard on everybody. It’s hard on our community,” said Richard Guerrero, Fontana Police.
“The fact that it was a young boy that was involved,” said neighbor Tanisha Davis. “He never got to live out his life. Life is too short and he is 3.”
An investigation is ongoing.
