Obituary: Sidney “Sid” Dykstra

Sidney “Sid” Dykstra, 91, longtime Gallatin Valley farmer and rancher, passed away on April 13, 2018, in Churchill, MT.

Sid was born on April 20, 1926, near Manhattan, Montana and lived all his life in the Gallatin Valley. He was well known in the local farming/ranching and dairy community. He was a member of the Bozeman Christian Reformed Church and served in several capacities.

Sid is survived by his wife, Ethel, of 68 years; his five children, Fred (Loree) Dykstra, Joel (Carolyn) Dykstra, Marijane (Richard) Kent, Sherry (Jeff) Laug, and Mark (Johanna) Dykstra; nine grandchildren, Douglas Dykstra, Laura (Brett) Martin, Shoni (Aaron) Browning, Jesse (Jessica) Dykstra, Dylan Laug, Morgan Laug, Ryan Laug, Corwin Dykstra, and Rune Dykstra; two great-grandchildren, Ari Browning and Wyatt Browning; twin sister, Dorothea Kimm; sister-in-law, Gertrude Dykema; and his brother-in-law, Albert Litle.

Sid’s greatest joys were his family, woodworking, and traveling.

Visitation will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, April 16 at Dokken-Nelson.  Visitation will also be Tuesday, April 17 from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Manhattan Christian Reformed Church, with interment at 10:00 A.M. at Churchill Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. at Manhattan Christian Reformed Church.
