BOZEMAN — Deer are a part of life for most of us in Southwest Montana. They are regularly found along highways, in fields and sometimes even in our yards.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks wants to remind folks that feeding these animals is illegal and potentially dangerous for them.

Morgan Jacobsen talked with Montana This morning’s Chet Layman This Week in Fish and Wildlife about this issue. He says artificially gathering the animals can lead to the spread of disease and potentially threaten the population.

Jacobsen also notes that feeding deer brings them closer to population areas and that can lead to more vehicle collisions and loss of private property. He notes that it is illegal to feed deer in an effort to bring them on to your property. He says deer are wild animals and they stay healthy by remaining in the wild.
