BOZEMAN — Campgrounds, rental cabins, picnic areas and outhouses in the Custer Gallatin National Forest will start to reopen on May 15.

Sites closed in late March to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Starting May 15, a number of sites will begin opening. The second round will begin on May 22, just in time for Memorial Day Weekend.

Representatives with the Custer-Gallatin National Forest ask that you continue practicing social distancing, and make sure to keep campsites extra clean.

Keep in mind, not all sites will be opening at this time, so make sure you check online before you go.

“The conditions or the situation for openings may be different for the places that you’re thinking of heading, so get the information before you leave so you’re not disappointed or that you can find the right place for you,” said Marna Daley, public affairs specialist at Custer Gallatin National Forest.

The sites that are opening May 15 will have a campground host on site to ensure cleaning standards are being met.
