Inmate Walter Cassell died on September 3 at the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge following an extended illness according to a press release Friday.
Cassell was 67 years old.
Cassell was sentenced out of Yellowstone County in 1995 for deliberate homicide with a dangerous weapon.
He was sentenced to 100 years.
