Great Falls hosted the annual Montana state PTA Convention, and on Saturday, the Great Falls PTA rolled out the red carpet to celebrate a special volunteer, Heather Levandowski, who was presented with the "Volunteer of the Year" award.

You must be nominated by five people to be considered for this award, and Heather had no idea she had been nominated.

Jill Hunt, PTA president at Meadowlark Elementary School, was one of the people who nominated Heather.

“I nominated her because I feel like she knows a tremendous amount of compassion and she seeks to be encouraging."

Heather wasn’t sure they were talking about her: "Well at first I was looking around to see who they were talking about until they were talking about stuff that I specifically did.”

She explained, “I read with some kids who are struggling and I take them aside and help read with them a little bit and it’s great to see when they just finally get it."

Dean Jardee, PTA president at Whittier Elementary School School, says it's exciting to bring people together, and to celebrate volunteers at our schools.
