GREAT FALLS — On Tuesday, February 24th, at the Columbus Center located in Great Falls, the Great Falls Community Gospel Choir performed to celebrate and honor Black History Month. The choir sang and discussed the richness of black culture and the many contributions that African-Americans have made in our history. The event marked the first time the Great Falls Community Gospel Choir has performed together since they were selected to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City a year ago.

“The pandemic has changed how we all come together and we feed off the joy from one another and help bring the joy to one another, so that has changed a lot of our getting together, and we miss that,” said Christell Benson, the founder and director of choir. “We want to encourage people to have a pandemic of love, that we would just spread joy and love and peace, that people would not look back, but look forward to what we’re going to develop again in this nation of unity and joy and the businesses will recover and we’ll be back where we were before.”

The Great Falls Community Gospel Choir is a non-denominational ministry with members of all faiths that come together to bring unity to the community.

On display at the Columbus Center were art, books, and other educational materials to recognize the achievements of Black Americans.
