The Flathead Warming Center, an emergency shelter for homeless in the Flathead Valley, has officially found a new home in Kalispell.
The warming center hopes to open doors at Christ Episcopal Church by Christmas.
The emergency shelter will be open 7 days a week until the end of March and will host residents in the church’s basement.
Flathead Warming Center Co-Chair Tonya Horn says it took more than a year to find the right location.
Horn says the warming center will welcome access to all homeless regardless of their individual or family barriers.
“I see people sleeping under bridges, literally under bridges. Sometimes it can be an invisible problem that most of us don’t see but we don’t have enough shelter beds and we our community that takes care of each other, and we want to use this red door so that anybody can walk in and find warmth and safety,” said Horn.
Horn adds, the warming center is working with the City of Kalispell to ensure safety to all residents.
