Flathead firefighters responded to a fire at the address for Pacific Steel and Recycling in Kalispell early Tuesday.
Evergreen Fire Marshall Ben Covington says crews were called to the scene at 2:45 a.m. and arrived to find several vehicles on fire.
Covington told MTN News firefighters were greeted with flames reaching 60 feet in the air. It took firefighters around two hours to knock out these sixty foot flames and luckily no one was injured.
Three nearby homes were evacuated because of the blaze which is just off of U.S. Highway 2 east of town.
“Two structures threatened, they were evacuated and then we called in additional resources from more from Evergreen as well as Creston, South Kalispell and Kalispell," Evergreen Fire and Rescue Lt. Cole Williams said.
He added that the damage is so extensive the cause of the fire is not yet known. There's no danger to the public and the investigation into the cause will continue, according to Williams.
Montclaire Drive between U.S. Highway 2 the railroad tracks was closed for several hours due to hose-lines in the road.
