MISSOULA — Dr. Jeremiah Shinn has been officially named the 20th president of the University of Montana.
He has been serving as interim president for Boise State University. He also served as vice president for student affairs at Louisiana State University.
“I am inspired by the remarkable students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members who make UM so special, and I look forward to joining this extraordinary team to build on its strong foundation and shape a bright future together," Dr. Shinn shared in a press release.
The Montana Board of Regents approved a contract for Dr. Shinn during a meeting on Tuesday, April 14.

During that meeting, Commissioner of Higher Education Clayton Christian said that as more than 70 candidates from across the nation were evaluated, Dr. Shinn consistently rose to the top.
Christian said he believes Dr. Shinn understands the values, culture, and trajectory of the institution.
Regents expressed they are excited for the future with him at the helm of the University of Montana.
His initial contract shows an annual salary of $467,197 and would run through June 30, 2029 in accordance with Board of Regents policies.
Dr. Shinn's contract will begin on July 1, 2026.
