A Livingston man died after hiking into Owl Creek hot springs near Salmon, Idaho.

The Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 11 a.m. on Thursday reporting that 47-year-old Micah Vest of Livingston was a day overdue to return from his hike.

Sheriff Steve Penner said in a press release that a deputy located Vest’s vehicle on the Salmon River Road near Owl Creek. Salmon Search and Rescue joined the deputy in searching for Vest. They found his body below the hot springs after a two-and-a-half hour search.

According to Sheriff Penner, it took another six hours to recover Vest’s body due to the ruggedness of the terrain.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Vest died as a result of the fall, the release said.
