BILLINGS – A United Airlines flight was forced to return to Billings Logan International Airport after takeoff Wednesday morning due to a faulty de-icing sensor.
A spokesman for the Billings Operation Center said the aircraft left Billings around 11:15 a.m. and noticed a “wing issue”. The plane was directed by air traffic control back to Billings but circled for about a half hour to burn off fuel.
It was determined a faulty de-icing sensor was the problem.
Airport emergency responders were on standby as the plane landed and taxied to an area near the control tower. Forty-eight people, including the crew were on board.
The plane was still on the tarmac at mid-afternoon.
