STEVENSVILLE – Progress is continuing to be made in digging out from the massive dump of snow earlier this week.
It took about 48 hours to start getting streets under control. But in typical Bitterroot fashion, the residents are also making a difference.
Individuals have been digging in to not only get themselves out of a jam but turning their shovels and snowblowers and personal plows to their neighbor’s predicaments too.
“And when this last four days happened we ended up with 2½ to 3 feet of snow or whatever it was. I just said I’m going to run around town after I get my chores done and see if there’s people in a jam,” said Michael Sharkey, who is a member of the Lost Trail Ski Patrol.
“I started volunteering to help dig people out with my plow. I happened to be in town hall the other day on some other business and I said ‘hey let me know if you have anybody that is in trouble and needs some help’,” he added.
Sharkey says the amount of volunteer snow removal around Stevensville is a testament to the small town community feeling.
