A man died after drowning in Flathead Lake on Sunday.
Lake County Sheriff Don Bell says the man was with a group boating near Bird Island when the incident occurred.
The victim swam away from the group without a life jacket and was unable to make it back to the boat, according to Sheriff Bell.
Bystanders were able to reach him, pulled him from the water, called 911 and began chest compressions.
Search and Rescue and the Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.
The body of the victim has been taken to the State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy.
The Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the death.
The man's name has not been released pending the notification of next of kin.
