BOZEMAN — Going through a pandemic can be hard enough. But it can be especially challenging for children, who may not fully understand what's going on.

It can be even more devastating as a child when you have to spend your birthday in isolation.

But Principal Mike Van Vuren and his staff at Hyalite Elementary School wanted to let their students know they still cared about them even in the middle of a pandemic.

"They sing a song, and that made me feel very excited," said student Millie Skelton.

Skelton just celebrated her 7th birthday Thursday.

Principal Van Vuren and his staff went to several students' houses who recently celebrated a birthday or have one coming up and sang them "Happy Birthday."

"It's great. We have to be creative right now, and I think that was a really surprising and creative way to make the day special. So, we really appreciate it," said parent Tanner Skelton.

Along with their personal song, the students each received a hand-made card.
