WEST YELLOWSTONE — A snowmobiler was rescued Sunday evening after becoming unable to ride their machine back to West Yellowstone.

On Sunday, February 21, 2021, at 4:31 pm, the West Yellowstone Police Department Dispatch Center received a request for assistance from three snowmobilers on Lion’s Head old ski hill, 11 miles west of West Yellowstone. One of the snowmobilers was experiencing extreme back pain and was unable to ride their snowmobile back to town.

Volunteers from Gallatin County Sheriff Search and Rescue in West Yellowstone and Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks responded to help the snowmobiler. Once on scene the volunteers loaded the snowmobiler onto a specialized toboggan sled and transported them to a Hebgen Basin Rural Fire Department ambulance. The snowmobiler was subsequently transported to the Big Sky Medical Center for evaluation.
