Update: 1:55 p.m. Monday

Carbon County Sheriff Josh McQuillan said Miller has been found and is safe.

Red Lodge Fire Rescue released this statement Monday afternoon:

Red Lodge Search and Rescue successfully located missing hunter Mike Miller at Lake Gertrude in good condition at around 10:45 am this morning. Mike and his bow hunting partner planned to hunt in the area of the Silver Run Plateau on the Beartrack Trail.

Mike and his hunting partner separated early in the morning of Sept 12 with plans to meet up later that day. Mike took a wrong turn towards Timberline Lake and found that he could not make it back down the trail. He was reported missing late last night after his hunting partner was unable to find him on the trail or at their campsite. Mike was prepared with some survival gear and was able to start a fire to stay warm.

Search and Rescue members mobilized late last night and searched in the area of the trailhead. Additional crews began to search early in the morning, sending crews up the Beartrack and Timberline trails. Search and Rescue members located him in good condition after he spent a chilly night out at 9500’. SAR members were able to safely walk him down to the trailhead.

“With weather conditions expected to change this evening and snow moving into the area, we were fortunate to locate the missing hunter so quickly. “ said Tom Kuntz, Red Lodge Fire Rescue chief.
