BOZEMAN — A Bozeman relic was reported stolen on Saturday.

Ole Nelson, from the sign and graphic design firm Media Station Design, reported the ‘Lite’ part of his ‘Starlite’ sign went missing from his front yard.

The sign has been propped against his house off Mendenhall St. since 2007.

The sign had both personal and historical value to Nelson and the community.

“That was Bozeman’s drive-in theater,” said Nelson. “The Starlite Drive-in Theater. It was across the street from where Murdoch’s is now on North 7th,” said Nelson.

The drive-in theater was open in the mid 1950s and was closed in the early 1990s.

Nelson was given the sign by a friend on the condition that he never sell it and put it somewhere for the community to enjoy.

Police are still carrying out their investigation.
