BOZEMAN — On Sunday afternoon the Hyalite Fire District visited multiple neighborhoods just to say hello and give a friendly reminder that they’re still here during these difficult times.
“Of course to see the kids’ faces. That’s kind of the big thing, you know it’s a joy for us to see those little faces light up when we come by,” said Assistant Fire Chief of the Hyalite Fire District, Brian Nickolay
Fire engines lined up Sunday afternoon before the parade, while residents within the Hyalite Fire District waited eagerly from their driveways to say hello.
“As first responders, we are the fire department, but we also respond to medical calls that kinda puts us on the front lines of the pandemic,” said Nickolay.
As the emergency responders toured the neighborhoods, they were met with cheers, waves and thank yous.
The Hyalite Fire District says the parade is all about showing community pride and support between emergency responders and the public.
“We want to kind of show that right now, especially show everybody we’ll get through this together. It’s gonna take a community to get through this.”
Unlike many normal parades, practicing social distancing was a high priority.
But that didn’t stop fun and the smiles.
“That’s why we’re doing it, is to just kinda get the kids out of the house for a second. Even if it’s just to the front yard.”
