Montana Rail Link leaders say no one was injured Monday afternoon in a train derailment near East Helena.

It happened around 4 p.m., just west of the East Helena Viaduct. About seven cars derailed, and at least three ended up on their sides.

The train was carrying grain, which spilled around the track. Ross Lane, MRL’s chief communications officer, said there were no hazardous materials aboard.

MRL crews were on scene Monday afternoon to clean up the area. Lane said traffic on the main line had already resumed two hours after the derailment.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
