GALLATIN COUNTY — Labor Day weekend means road trips and vacations for many of us.
The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind you that it can also be a dangerous and deadly time to be on the road.
It’s important to always buckle your seat belt, no matter how long of a distance you’re traveling, and limiting nighttime driving can also keep you safer.
Avoid distracted driving at all costs, which includes allowing a passenger to handle navigation apps and cell phone calls.
Also, have a designated driver if you plan on drinking this weekend.
“The biggest thing, if anybody is drinking we want to make sure they’re keeping in mind to have a designated driver. Our main goal is to keep everybody safe out on the road. We will be out in full force this weekend,” said Deputy Sheriff Jackie Stewart.
“And make sure you’re wearing your seat belt, and leave yourself plenty of time to get where you need to go,” added Stewart.
Make sure also to be mindful of changing speed limits as you make your way home this weekend.
