GALLATIN COUNTY — The outdoors winter recreation season is ramping up, which means members of the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue are gearing up for the season.

In fact, rescue volunteers have already been making rescue trips. This past weekend, a 43-year-old man had to be rescued after his snowmobile crashed into a tree.

“You know, the tools to dig yourself out if you get stuck, supplies to spend the night if you had to, food, water, fire-making, shelter. That kind of thing, if people packed as if they had to spend the night each time they went out, that would greatly reduce the risk of exposure,” explained Commander Scott Secor with Gallatin County Sheriff's Search and Rescue.

Commander Secor says the best preparation anyone can do is to utilize a buddy system and never go anywhere alone.
