It’s been a rough year, but that hasn’t stopped the EPA’s plans to help Butte’s environment.

EPA Region 8 has planned a virtual community meeting for Butte residents to be involved in.

Dana Barnicoat, the community involvement coordinator, said that the meeting will consist of updates on EPA stakeholder activity, what projects are lined up and let residents know that they are listening.

"We also just want to make sure we’re reassuring the public that we’re being transparent, that we’re engaging them, that we’re listening to them and to collaborate with the community so that everybody has a voice," Barnicoat said.

During their last meeting had a little over 82 people attend at a time, now Barnicoat says that he expects more than 100 people to attend.

"And I guess that’s unheard of for a Superfund site, but the more people involved I think the better off we are in the community of Butte," Barnicoat said.

Nikia Greene, the remedial project manager, said that one of the biggest things is EPA’s relationship with the community.

"You’re in the community working with local community members, agencies, on a daily basis so that relationship building is really important and to build that trust because you're in their town cleaning it up," Greene said.

The meeting will be held Monday, December 14 from 9 to 10 AM. For more information or to attend, email Dana Barnicoat at Barnicoat.Dana@epa.gov.
