BOZEMAN, Mont. — Update 2:15 p.m.
A Bozeman man is in custody after stabbing his roommate early Monday morning, prompting a hours-long standoff that ended with a SWAT team taking him into custody.
According to a city of Bozeman press release, the Bozeman Police Department responded to a local medical center at approximately 3:30 a.m. Monday after an adult man arrived with stab wounds. Officers determined the victim had been stabbed by a roommate at a residence in the 5000 block of Saxon Way in Bozeman. The victim is expected to survive and is receiving medical care.
Officers responded to the residence, where the suspect barricaded himself inside a bedroom. Due to the violent nature of the stabbing, Gallatin County Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) responded to the scene.
At approximately 8:50 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
He is currently being held at the Gallatin County Detention Center on a felony charge of attempted homicide.
"We are grateful for the assistance of the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, Montana State University Police Department, Bozeman Fire Department, American Medical Response, Gallatin County 911 and for the patience and cooperation of the residents surrounding this incident," said Bozeman Police Deputy Chief Joe Swanson.
Update 1:30 p.m.
The incident at Laurel Parkway and West Oak Street has been resolved, according to the police, and the public is no longer in danger.
The Bozeman Police Department is asking everyone to stay away from Laurel Parkway and W. Oak Street Monday due to heavy police and SWAT activity.
It's unclear what prompted such a large police response. Authorities called it an "ongoing incident."
