BOZEMAN — Beth Shalom in Bozeman celebrated their Can-orah lighting on Friday evening, with the lighting of a menorah made entirely of canned food.
The congregation and the Gallatin Valley Food Banked paired up for the food drive to benefit those in need this holiday season, and to kick off to the Hanukkah celebration that begins at sundown on Sunday.
Hundreds of cans were donated to the food bank, and leaders within the community lit the candles once the menorah was complete.
“The miracle of light, the greater aspect of miracles can bring food and goodness to other people,” said Rabbi Mark Kula.
“I don’t think it’s an accident, or rather it’s intentional that this is called the most wonderful time of the year. Because of all the festivals that are celebrated.”
On Sunday beginning at 4 p.m., the lighting of the menorah will take place at the Bozeman Public Library, and then at 5 p.m. at the center of the Gallatin Valley Mall.
The final menorah lighting will be at 7:45 p.m. at Aspen Point, followed by music and refreshments.
All members of the community are welcome to join for the festivities.
