BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Bozeman School District Election is on May 7.
There will be two levy requests on the ballot being mailed to taxpayers.
The elementary trustees are requesting a $115,000 general fund operating levy increase for programming in the elementary schools.
If approved, the increase will raise property taxes for a home with an assessed market value of $100,000 by $1 each year.
The other levy is the Elementary Building Reserve levy. The current $1.5 million dollar levy that has been in effect the past six years is expiring and trustees are asking for $2 million this year.
If passed, the increase would be $5.34 cents per $100,000 of assessed value on a home in Bozeman.
The schools are bigger than they were six years ago and the district needs more money to maintain them.
“We’ve built Meadowlark Elementary and had to add on to existing elementary schools. We did a substantial expansion on Sacajawea Middle School and it’s a direct result of the growth we are having in our community,” Bozeman School District Trustee Greg Neil said.
The election will also include a trustee election and those ballots will be mailed to taxpayers on April 22.
Ballots are due by May 7 and can be mailed in or dropped off at the County Election Office.
