BOZEMAN, Mont. – On Saturday, volunteers across Bozeman and Belgrade collected food for the Gallatin Valley Food Bank’s eight annual Spring for Food Drive.
Cardinal Distributing, First Interstate Bank, and KBZK partnered with HRDC with a goal of collecting 15,000 pounds of food for the Gallatin Valley Food Bank.
Last year, HRDC’s Gallatin Valley Food Bank served an average of 3,000 people each month and gave out 2 million pounds of food.
Volunteer Zachary Black manned a booth outside of Rosauers with his daughter and a couple of her friends. He said he is shocked by how many people locally have to use the Food Bank’s services.
“It is a surprise,” said Black. “You know, because we all kind of live in our own little communities and sometimes we are sheltered in certain aspects and you don’t realize how many people are out there that are in need. When you start to dig in the facts and look into it, it is astonishing really.”
“I am very lucky in the fact that I always have food around me,” said volunteer Laurel Glenn, who collected food outside of Walmart. “I can’t imagine what it would be like not having that. So I think that is a huge thing to be able to help and solve that problem.”
The food drive will continue next week for Childhood Hunger Awareness Week at Belgrade and Bozeman schools.
