BOZEMAN, Mont. – On Monday, the Bozeman City Commission will work to refine a list of goals for the city’s 2019-2020 Strategic Plan.
The Commission enacted its first plan back in April of last year with the main focus being the Public Safety Center, community outreach and affordable housing.
“We have a finite amount of resources and time and staffing,” said City Manager Andrea Surratt. “So we have to say these are our most important things and do those first.”
This year, a list of five priorities has already been chosen: community outreach, affordable housing, land use initiative, annexation and park, and trails. However, there is still room on the list. On Monday, commissioners will look at a proposed list of 14 additional projects and decide which ones make the cut.
“The discussion Monday night is to prioritize any of those additional projects in our work plan,” said Surratt.
The proposed projects range for a wide variety of areas including a gender pay project, using 1% of project costs toward public art, and expansion of the public library.
“The list is fun and long and we are just trying to get a handle on exactly what ones the commissioners want us to focus on.
Finalizing the list is critical because according to the city’s research, 70% of employee’s time goes towards routine work, 20% is used towards strategic plan goals, and the last 10% goes toward unexpected workload.
