MSU gym demolition to change standing location for graduation

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The continued demolition of the gyms at Montana State University is still underway, and that means a big change in upcoming graduation, in part.

MSU officials say the North, South and Upper Gyms were used during ceremonies for student staging areas.

While the fitness center remains closed for the rest of the semester, the university must come up with a plan to relocate those zones.

Officials say that is a priority but might take some time.

However, it is important to note that the ceremony, itself, will still take place in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse nearby.

“We’re working on plans to adjust for that, obviously. Some of those are still being sorted out but commencement will go on,” says Michael Becker, MSU spokesman and director of the MSU News Service. “We’ll be handing out diplomas and hopefully there won’t be too big of a difference for students.”

Once again, university officials say updates will be posted, including about the final destination for graduation staging.
