BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Bozeman School Board approved to spend an additional $1.8 million dollars for its high school stadium project Monday night.
After being unsure in September about whether or not to approve the north multi-use building as apart of the stadium project, a unanimous vote by the trustees approved to spend the extra one point eight million.
This money is included in the 125 million dollar bond passed last year.
Board members were hesitant last month because there weren’t concrete numbers for the renovations to the current high school.
Now, having concrete numbers, trustees could make the confident decision to include the building as apart of the project.
Chair of the Bozeman School Board Andy Willett said, “one of the most exciting pieces quite frankly of that project because of what it does to the campus for all the sports and all the field activities”
The building will add new amenities to the stadium, including a locker room, athletic trainers space and more.
“The east end of the north building where we have the restrooms and concessions and so forth are really close to soccer, softball and tennis,” Willett said.
Board members are happy they waited until now to make this decision and believe this building will bring the campus together.
Before the Bozeman School Board even approved the extra 1.8 millions dollars for the north multi use building as apart of the stadium project, they also approved the architect design for the renovations to the current high school.
The designs presented would make it possible for Bozeman high to serve eighteen hundred students and construction is expected to start in 2020.
At this point in the planning process the renovations are 15 percent over budget but the architects don’t believe it will stay that way.
The district will actually be saving money by approving the construction of the north building rather than waiting to do it in the future.
